Following are scholarships offered to students in the School of Recreation and Sport Sciences:
Margaret K. Davis Scholarship
In honor of Margaret K. Davis, a former director of resident services at Ohio University, and her exceptional service to the University dining halls and dormitories, this annual award is given to a deserving student judged to have a high potential for making an outstanding contribution to his or her selected profession in human and consumer sciences.
Carlotta C. Greer Scholarship
An annual scholarship awarded to human and consumer science major in honor of alumna Carlotta Greer. Based on merit as determined by scholarship, attitude, service to the university and consideration of financial need.
Carlotta C. Greer Merit Award
This annual award is designed to honor outstanding merit as determined
by both scholarship and service to the University or the community.
Alice Lockard Award
Established by Alice Lockard, former assistant professor of home economics, to recognize and encourage professional growth of students majoring in the area of child and family studies. Presented to students with high scholarship who have demonstrated competence and initiative by engaging in a project that will contribute to professional growth and experience.
Mary and Harold Edwards Sr. Scholarship for Interior Design
Established to honor Mary and Harold Edwards for the value they placed on higher education, this endowed scholarship is awarded to a resident of Appalachia who is majoring in interior architecture, formerly interior design, and who has demonstrated academic merit and financial need.
Judith H. Matthews Student Leadership Excellence Award
This award was established to honor Dr. Judith H. Matthews and to recognize her years of commitment and leadership in the School of Human and Consumer Sciences. The award is presented to an outstanding senior in the School of Human and Consumer Sciences who has demonstrated leadership as a student at Ohio University.
Dale E. and Edith L. (Pepper) Mansperger Scholarship
Established in memory of Edith Pepper Mansperger, a home economics alumna, to recognize students who share her characteristics: outstanding leadership, integrity and personal drive.
Helen Brown Miller Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Helen Brown Miller, a home economics education alumna, to recognize an undergraduate student majoring in human and consumer sciences who is a resident of a county or township represented by Clarence E. Miller during his tenure in Congress and who demonstrates financial need.
Jane Shellabarger Nocito Family/Pierre Foods Scholarship
Established by Pierre Foods Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, in appreciation for Jane Shellabarger Nocito’s innovative contributions to the company. Jane Nocito studied food science and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S.H.Ec. from Ohio University in 1971. This scholarship is presented to an undergraduate student majoring in food and nutrition.
Vivian M. Roberts Scholarship
Established by faculty, students and alumni in honor of Dr. Roberts’ twenty-six years of dedicated service to the School of Home Economics as a faculty member and school director. Awarded to selected outstanding freshman, sophomore or junior human and consumer sciences majors based on financial need and merit.
Shirley Slater Scholarship
Established to honor the commitment and service of Dr. Shirley Slater upon her retirement as director of the School of Home Economics. Recognizes the leadership abilities of selected students as demonstrated by participation in student organizations and volunteer activities.
Beulah Sellers-Davis Scholarship
Named in honor of Dr. Sellers-Davis, retired director of the School of Home Economics, who served Ohio University for 21 years as a faculty member and administrator. Presented to students who demonstrate merit, service and potential for outstanding work in human and consumer sciences.
Countess Elizabeth Evans Goluchowska Scholarship in Interior Design
Established by Countess Goluchowska, niece of former Ohio University president, Dr. John Baker, for interior architecture, formerly interior design, majors who have demonstrated academic merit. Financial need is also a consideration.
M. Ellen & Phillip E. Goldsberry Scholarship
Established in 2004 through the generosity of Dr. Ellen Goldsberry and Phillip Goldsberry, both Ohio University graduates, this scholarship is awarded to junior or senior level retail merchandising majors who have demonstrated through their academic achievements, employment and leadership roles and skills, a strong interest in pursuing a professional career in the retail industry.
Mary Ellin Weinberg Education Scholarship
Mary Ellin Weinberg, a 1965 graduate of Ohio University College of Education, established this scholarship to assist future teachers whose desire to make a difference in young children’s lives. The recipient of this award must be a graduate of Grandview High School.
Pauline A. and Roger D. Humphrey Education Scholarship
The Pauline and Roger Humphrey Education Scholarship was established to support an early childhood education student with demonstrated financial need and academic achievement.
Hester South Memorial Scholarship
The recipient of the Hester South Memorial Scholarship must be enrolled in a “primary” or early childhood education program.
