ABOUT THE SCHOOL  |  School Director's Message

Welcome to the Ohio University School of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences (HSLS). Our faculty, alumni and friends are proud of our rich heritage, successes, and continued accomplishments.
Our international reputation is earned by a solid team of faculty members who are leading scholars and spokespersons for the professions of audiology, speech-language pathology, and the hearing, speech and language sciences. Their leadership is evidenced by excellent research productivity, prestigious grant funding, professional involvement, and numerous teaching awards. They create an engaging environment for learning, and value students as active participants in that process. Our reputation also is earned by our excellent students and alumni who have distinguished themselves as clinicians, researchers, faculty members, clinical mentors, and administrators.
As you explore our web site, be sure to learn about the many special programs and unique opportunity available to our students. In addition to our five different degree programs, these opportunities include the HSLS Honor’s Tutorial Program, the MA-PhD Link Program, the Undergraduate Research Club, the Ohio University Respite Volunteer Program, the Ohio University Sign Language Club, our local chapters of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) and the National Association of future Professionals in Audiology (NAFDA), opportunities associated with our many active research laboratories, and numerous interdisciplinary and service-learning projects.
Vast clinical experiences are available to graduate students through our large HSLS clinical enterprise, which includes a spectacular on-campus clinic and numerous additional sites in our region, including hospitals, schools, nursing homes, home health agencies, and agencies serving people with disabilities. Our extensive nationwide clinical education network includes over 250 clinical externships sites.
Students from our programs are highly sought after for employment. The demands for clinical services and for academic faculty members and researchers exceeds the number of people available to fill current openings, and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics proclaims our disciplines to be among the fastest growing.
We welcome you to come visit us and see the School for yourself!
