Dear Alums & Friends,
With another year underway at Ohio University, I wanted to take this time out to thank all of you for your continued support and at the same time ask for a favor. The favor is simple … Can you help us with our initiative of raising the bar with our summer internship program? While many of you have been involved with our internship program in past years, I am hoping to expand our internship pool and build some new pipelines with our program. As many of you know we are taking the lead among the top graduate programs in the country and dissuading our students from taking non-paid internships. While we will continue to teach humility as an important part of our culture, we are trying to work closer with the sports business industry and secure a larger pool of paid internships that will provide our students with a meaningful experience. Please know that each of our current first year MBA students will have completed over 300 hours of consulting experience with the Voinovich Center before they set out for the summer and represent a tremendous value for your organization.
Most all of these students have already completed an internship or fellowship prior to starting our program. They are a very talented group and will be sending out internship letters right after Thanksgiving. If you feel your organization would be interested in hosting an Ohio University student this summer, I would ask you to give me a call at (740) 593-4666.
Finally, I wanted to take this opportunity to recognize Scott McCune as this year’s distinguished alumnus. I have known Scott for over 20 years and feel he represents the best of what Ohio University has to offer in serving as a role model for our faculty, current students and graduates. While his success at Coca Cola is evident with his position and responsibilities, Scott continues to support our program in ways that might not be as obvious. Anytime we have asked him to support an initiative with Ohio University’s SAFM program he has made himself available and we appreciate his continued involvement. Please join us when Scott returns to campus on May 2 & 3 for our annual SAFM Symposium.
All my best!
