General Information about the Program:

The Associate Degree Nursing Programs at Ohio University Southern, Zanesville, and Chillicothe enjoy an established reputation for graduating well prepared, high quality nurses. The Associate Degree Nursing Program is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing, The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and The Ohio Board of Regents and is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Upon completion of the associate degree, the graduate is prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination which leads to licensure as a Registered Nurse. Graduates of the associate degree program may choose to enter the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for two additional years of advanced nursing education. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program is offered online.

In September 2007 the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. ( NLNAC ) New York, NY notified the Ohio University School of Nursing that they have received a continuing accreditation for 8 years.

Application Process

ALL requested information must be in the Nursing Office before 5:00 p.m. June 30th of the year in which you want your file to be reviewed (considered) by the selection committee.

Submit an application to Ohio University Southern along with the $20 nonrefundable application fee.
Submit Official high school transcript or, if applicable, official GED scores.
Submit Official transcripts from accredited LPN Program and all previous college courses.
Submit to the nursing office a statement of educational and career goals/essay (typed - no more than 1 page). This is your opportunity to tell the selection committee why you want to be in the Nursing Program.
A high school 3.0 grade point average on a 4 point scale, or an established college grade point average of at least 2.75.
The applicant must have completed courses in algebra, biology and chemistry at the high school and/or college level with a minimum grade of “C” in each course before the deadline.

CHEM 121 (Chemistry)
PSY 101 (Psychology)

HCFN 128 (Nutrition)
SOC 101 (Sociology)

BIOS 130 (Anat & Phys I)
BIOS 131 (Anat & Phys II)

ENG 151 (English I)
BIOS 201 (Microbiology)

MATH 113 (College Algebra)
for those who have not yet had college chemistry or
PSY 120 (Statistics)

Elective (3 Credit Hours)

All students are required to take the COMPASS (placement test) exam before the deadline. Students have an opportunity to repeat the COMPASS examination once.

"Scores/Placement" needed to satisfy admission requirements are:
Math -Tier I
English 151
Reading - 80 or above

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) receive credit for the first three quarters of the Associate Degree in Nursing by successfully graduating from an approved school of practical nursing and meeting licensure requirements. In addition, the LPN must successfully complete, with a grade of “C” or better, a five credit hour transition course and three credit hour bridge Nursing Program.

MORE ABOUT EXCELSIOR EXAMINATIONS
The examinations are computer-driven and are administered at the Prometric Testing Centers (formerly Sylvan Technology Centers). These exams are designed to be as user-friendly as possible and require little or no previous computer experience. On-screen directions are available.

The exams are available up to 12 hours a day, 6 days a week (including Saturday). Approximately two weeks after applying to take the tests, you will be sent an authorization to test letter. You will generally have 90 days during which you may take the test. More information and study guides are available on the World Wide Web: www.excelsior.edu.

Approximate Costs/Expenses
STUDENT COSTS

Tuition - $1465 per quarter for resident full-time students (12-20 hours); $134 per credit hour for resident part-time students.

Books and supplies – Books are purchased for each quarter at an average of $175

Lab Fee - $30 (one time cost).
Liability Insurance - $36 per year.
Health Insurance – information regarding a special rate for OUS students is available in the main office located in the Collins Center.
Other expenses – including, but not limited to, health history and physical immunization, achievement tests and graduation costs.
Achievement Tests: Approximately $40 per quarter.
Graduation: Expenses for graduation, licensure, NCLEX-RN exam, pinning, etc. will occur. You will need to plan ahead for these expenses. Expenses at this time can reach around $600.
