TRANSITIONAL DPT PROGRAM

The School of Physical Therapy at Ohio University is now offering a tDPT program. The Ohio Board of Regents has approved our offering the program to graduates who hold the MPT degree. The total number of hours required for the degree is 164. Since many students graduated with about 115-119 credit hours, that means that only 45-49 credits will be needed to earn the DPT. This program will be available for a limited period of time (2013 will be the ending date). We believed that we must offer this program to our graduates with a MPT degree (about 200), since Ohio University has the most graduates in the state of Ohio with master’s degrees.

Curriculum
There are 28 credit hours that are required in the core courses as follows:

PT 713 Pharmacology (2 credits)
PT 715 Imaging for Physical Therapists (2 credits)

PT 854 Management of Women’s Health
PT 851 TMJ Evaluation and Treatment
PT 774 Seminar: Extremities
PT 775 Seminar: Spine
PT 835 Management and Leadership in Physical Therapy
PT 794 Workshops in Physical Therapy

McKenzie Part A: Low Back
Orthotics
PT 790 Independent Study

There may be other electives offered at various periods of time, most often in the winter quarter.

Course format
Some courses will be offered online only (for example: Imaging, Pharmacology). Others will be a blended format so that didactic work will be offered online and sometime will need to be spent practicing skills (for example, Tissue Mechanics, Manual Therapy). When time needs to be spent on the Athens campus, the instructors will work with the students to find optimal times (for example, a weekend).

Application to the Program
You would need to submit an application to the Graduate School through the Graduate Office online application process www.ohio.edu/graduate.
As long as you have your MPT degree from Ohio University, you will be accepted. An application fee of $50 is required

Fees
You will pay in-state tuition for these courses, regardless of where you currently reside and pay Athens campus general fees. The current tuition is $323 per credit hour and general fees are $40 per credit hour, so a 3 credit hour class would be $969 plus $120 or $1089. Many current students are funding their program through employee continuing education benefits. You may take as many courses as you like (up to 18 credits) in a quarter; however, most students take one or two courses per quarter.

Transfer of credits
You can transfer in up to 9 credit hours. Therefore, if you have taken courses at another institution, you can apply up to 9 of these toward your program requirements. If you have taken a course as a continuing education course (for example McKenzie Part A) you can transfer this course and it will count toward your credits.
