VisionThe Recreation Studies program aspires to be a global leader in the preparation of recreation and leisure services professionals and scholars. Such leadership will be distinguished by its interdisciplinary emphasis and its role in defining state-of-the-art practices, enriching our communities through model outreach programs and activities, and advancing scholarship that informs policy and practice.
MissionThe mission of the Recreation Studies program is to enrich people’s lives by promoting excellence in the delivery of recreation and leisure services in Ohio, nationally, and internationally. The program will achieve this mission through effective undergraduate and graduate education, research and scholarship, and service to the university, community, and profession.
Strategic GoalsGoal 1: Develop and maintain leading-edge curricula that provide students with diverse learning opportunities which promote professional growth and thereby prepare students for careers in recreation and leisure services.
Goal 2: Develop and maintain an interdisciplinary emphasis by incorporating perspectives from multiple theoretical and applied disciplines into our teaching, scholarship and service activities.
Goal 3: Promote inclusiveness through recruitment practices and retention efforts that foster diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Goal 4: Work to enrich rural Appalachian communities through the development and implementation of model outreach programs and activities for those communities, and thereby foster an environment in which faculty, staff, students, and community members are encouraged and empowered to actively seek solutions to community and regional problems related to health and wellness.
Goal 5: Achieve national and international prominence through the dissemination of scholarship in presentation and publication venues at the national and international levels.
