Program Requirements
The program
requires 50 credits and can be completed in three consecutive academic
quarters. Required courses include study in the following areas:
- Organization and administration of physical education and sport
- Research methods and statistics
- Analysis of performance in sports
- Foundations of coaching
- Performance conditioning for coaches
- Resistance training
- Risk management in athletics
- Psychology of coaching
- Ethics in sport
- Practicum is required.
To complete the program, students can choose either the thesis and
non-thesis option. Students who choose the non-thesis option must
decide by week five of their first quarter at Ohio University whether
they will meet the requirements for Coaching Education by either
successfully completing comprehensive exams or a mentored writing
experience
THESIS OPTION: If you elect a
course of study with a thesis option, you will be required to complete
8 additional hours of electives and a thesis minimum of five hours.
NON-THESIS OPTION:
If you elect a course of study with a non-thesis option you will be
required to complete an additional 12-14 hours of electives.
